Segregated funds

Segregated funds are funds issued by insurers, similar to mutual funds, but with additional advantages, including:

Guarantees

Capital protection from 75% to 100% at maturity or in the event of death.

Speed

By not going through the estate, the settlement is simpler and less costly, and also allows you to avoid estate-related fees.

Save on probate fees

For all provinces (except Quebec), an estate must be probated and probate is a process that can be very expensive. Upon the death of the annuitant, the amounts payable under the segregated funds are paid directly to the beneficiary(ies) designated in the contract, thus avoiding probate fees.

Elusiveness

In the event of bankruptcy or recourse by creditors, laws can protect a segregated fund contract (subject to certain conditions). Especially attractive to professionals and business owners.

Protection

Segregated fund contracts are covered by Assuris, a consumer protection program that guarantees investors a level of protection against loss attributable to the bankruptcy of the member company.

Guaranteed investment certificates (GICs)

Guaranteed Investment Certificates (GICs) are simple, secure investments that offer a guaranteed rate of return over a specified period of time. They offer several advantages, including:

Security

Your initial investment and the interest paid are guaranteed

Growth

Guarantee that your investment will grow, regardless of market behavior.

Flexibility

Your investment may or may not be registered and you can choose the duration and type of interest that suits you.

In addition, these types of investments are eligible for the following financial products that best suit you, such as:

• RRSP (registered retirement savings plan)

• RRIF (registered retirement income fund)

• CRI (locked-in retirement account)

• LIF (life income fund)

• RESP (Registered Education Savings Plan)

• TFSA (tax-free savings account)

• Not registered

We can also offer you annuity products from several insurers.
